CPR/First Aid Certification for Student Teaching
CURRENT CPR/First Aid/AED certification is required for student teaching
- Student must take an in-person onsite skills test with a certified AHA instructor to receive the CPR/1st Aid certification.
- Agency/company must adhere to American Heart Association and/or American Red Cross guidelines.
- Before registering, contact the Field Placement and Licensure office, fplo@montana.edu, to verify the class is appropriate.
- If you are already certified and that certification will not expire during your student teaching, please upload your card to the Canvas Course. You do not need to take it again.
When looking to complete initial CPR/First Aid/AED training, please keep in mind:
- Must be adult and child certification.
- Organizations who meet ILCOR/AHA guidelines and provide acceptable CPR/First Aid/AED
certification are:
- American Heart Association (AHA)
- American Red Cross (ARC)
- National Safety Council (NSC)
Renewal/Recertification of CPR/First Aid/AED Certification
Online renewals are accepted if:
- Certification is done 30-days before, but no later than 30-days after, the expiration date. We cannot accept a previous certification if the expiration date is outside of these parameters.
- You must renew First Aid AND CPR
- Student must provide a copy of their soon-to-be expired/expired certification.
- Company/Business that offers renewal/recertification must meet ILCOR/AHA guidelines.
- The RED CROSS WEBSITE offers acceptable online renewal options.

The safety center works with our department to schedule classes for teachers. Please follow this process to sign up:
Signing up for CPR via the links attached is a three-step process.
Step #1: payment of $40.00. The payment can be made utilizing this the Field Placement E-Commerce site.
Step #2: RSVP to one of the following dates and times - Please do not sign up for a class without paying.

**Each class has a cap on the number of participants, if you sign up and don’t pay, you prohibit someone else from signing up. Ultimately you will not be allowed to participate in the class unless the Safety and Risk Management office has received evidence of payment.
