Classroom Committee Minutes - May 12, 2021
Attendees: Dean Adams, Tony Campeau, McKenna Christensen, Alisha Downs, Will Freese, Ann Galloway, Kelsey Green, Brad Haderlie, Olivia Hayes, Kris Johnson, John How, Rob Maher, Michelle Mulhill, Sean Peterson, Richard Rudnicki, Colin Smith, Jennifer Thomson, Cindy Tirrell, Joshua Turner, and Bill Walker
Leon Johnson 209
- Leon Johnson 209 is used as a GIS instructional lab and is seeking funding for furniture upgrades and power distribution improvements
- A form exists for submitting requests for renovation and upgrade requests
- Instructional labs had a separate upgrade list in the past, CPDC is planning to consolidate priority lists going forward
- This committee has previously discussed the need to bring labs onto the priority list
- Discussed the need to delineate the differences between funding sources for UIT student labs, department labs and Registrar-controlled labs
- There has not been a recent survey of the instructional labs to collect data on needed updates
Jabs Hall Room 207
- Jake Jabs College of Business (JJCB) is offering a new Master of Science degree and
would like to use Room 207 as a “home base” for the program
- Requesting specific furniture and arrangement, funded by JJCB
- CPDC and UIT would like to emphasis the process and documentation for requests such
as this
- Committee discussed the need for the MSU community to better understand the process and timeline for project requests and implementation
- Room 207 is a Registrar-controlled instructional space
- It is appropriate for this request to go through Classroom Committee which will provide a recommendation for Space Management Committee to decide on
- The Classroom Committee is comfortable with the layout of the classroom as presented if JJCB would like to bring this request to the Space Management Committee
Classroom Viewbook
- Dean Adams and committee members will continue to work on the draft Viewbook website over the summer
- Committee would like to organize a Faculty get-together before the Fall semester to learn about techniques to utilize different classroom layouts and technology
Classroom Technology COVID-19 Updates
- Colin Smith presented a summary report of the survey sent to faculty and instructors on their utilization of technology in the classroom
Classroom-in-the-Round
- There is a need to recruit faculty to teach in these rooms
