Classroom Inventory

Sarah Knoebl surveyed all classrooms on MSU Bozeman campus in order to create a comprehensive list of current space quality. Planning, Design & Construction presented a list of classrooms identified for potential upgrades:

i. Roberts Hall 101
ii. Roberts Hall 113
iii. Herrick Hall 117
iv. Cobleigh Hall 429
v. Linfield Hall 113
vi. Leon Johnson Hall 346
vii. Linfield Hall 125
viii. Animal Bioscience Building134
ix. Barnard Hall 103
x. Wilson Hall 1-133
xi. Wilson Hall 1-144

Michelle Mulhill with Disability Services noted that Herrick Hall is inaccessible and that the ramp in Roberts Hall 101 is not used by ADA students. Michelle also mentioned that the desks in Lewis Hall are ADA compliant/certified, but are not accessible when the desks are rearranged.

Rob Maher specified that Cobleigh Hall 429 has previously been on the priority list for renovations.

The Registrar is usually involved in these discussions to provide perspective on the seating capacity for these rooms.

It was mentioned that the renovation proposed for Roberts Hall 101 will be expensive. The Registrar remains sensitive to the need for this renovation.

The Classroom Committee will not receive a set amount of funding; therefore, Staff will take whichever rooms are recommended, package the rooms, and then submit them to the Capital Improvement Process.

Brad Haderlie communicated that some of the rooms are slated to get improved lecterns, and could include Roberts 101, Linfield 113, and Leon Johnson 346.

Committee members emphasized the importance of including instructional labs andcomputer lab spaces in the assessments. It was suggested that the definition of “classroom” be updated in order to encompass broader use (and to include instructional spaces).

Small maintenance projects for listed classrooms will be addressed via work request by UIT or the Building Supervisor and larger renovations will be submitted to the CIP process.

Rob Maher suggested an a future agenda item should be a case study of the use of classrooms.
