Standards Discussion – Fixed vs. Nesting Tables in Classrooms
The Classroom Committee was requested to establish a standard for new classroom table purchases.
- Discussed the flexibility of nesting tables vs. the cost and maintenance of fixed tables.
- Both options accommodate ADA compliance.
Individual tables which require maintenance will continue to be addressed in order to keep the furniture in a room consistent.
Historically, this committee has tended to express a preference for flexible furniture options.
CPDC recommends that the Classroom Committee provide direction to make this decision on a case-by-case basis based on the use and layout of the room.
The Classroom Committee agreed that these decisions can be made by CPDC on a case-by-case basis.
- CPDC will continue to come to the Classroom Committee with any larger classroom projects and upgrades
- CPDC will create guidelines outlining classroom furniture maintenance and replacement.
Classroom in the Round
The committee discussed the importance of preparing faculty to teach in existing and new Classroom-in-the-Round-style spaces. Dean Adams to engage with faculty and Shakespeare in the Parks to offer a seminar on opportunities to utilize this style of teaching space.
There are plans to record lectures this upcoming semester to offer a tool for how to utilize classrooms in the round.
