Standards Discussion – Fixed vs. Nesting Tables in Classrooms

The Classroom Committee was requested to establish a standard for new classroom table purchases.

  1. Discussed the flexibility of nesting tables vs. the cost and maintenance of fixed tables.
  2. Both options accommodate ADA compliance.

Individual tables which require maintenance will continue to be addressed in order to keep the furniture in a room consistent.

Historically, this committee has tended to express a preference for flexible furniture options.

CPDC recommends that the Classroom Committee provide direction to make this decision on a case-by-case basis based on the use and layout of the room.

The Classroom Committee agreed that these decisions can be made by CPDC on a case-by-case basis.

  1. CPDC will continue to come to the Classroom Committee with any larger classroom projects and upgrades
  2. CPDC will create guidelines outlining classroom furniture maintenance and replacement.

Classroom in the Round

The committee discussed the importance of preparing faculty to teach in existing and new Classroom-in-the-Round-style spaces. Dean Adams to engage with faculty and Shakespeare in the Parks to offer a seminar on opportunities to utilize this style of teaching space.

There are plans to record lectures this upcoming semester to offer a tool for how to utilize classrooms in the round.
