You don’t need to come in with a big idea.

You don’t need a project idea, leadership experience, or a perfectly polished application to be a Fellow.

We’re looking for students who are curious about campus life, notice things happening around them, ask questions, and are open to learning with other people. Maybe there’s something about MSU you keep thinking about. Maybe you’ve had an experience that made you wonder if other students feel the same way. Or maybe the Fellows Program just sounds interesting to you. Those are all good reasons to apply.

And yes, Fellows get paid.

Each Fellow receives a $1,800 stipend for their time and participation. We know students are balancing classes, jobs, finances, and a lot of other responsibilities, so we’ve designed the program with that in mind!

If you receive financial aid, don’t let that stop you from applying. Financial aid situations vary from student to student, and we’ll work with selected Fellows individually to figure out the best way to distribute the stipend.

Applying is pretty easy!

The application asks for some basic information and two short responses so we can get to know a little about how you think and what you’re curious about.

You can respond in writing, by audio, or by video — whatever feels most comfortable and most like you :)

No résumé—No references—No project proposal. 

We’re not looking for perfect answers. We just want to hear from you.

What happens after you apply?

Some applicants will be invited to a short conversation with Student Commons staff. You don’t have to prepare anything special, and you definitely don’t need to dress up. It’s just a chance for us to learn a little more about you, and for you to ask us questions, too.
